Vampire Facts

(Information has been pulled from My Vampire and Me: A Journey of Binding a Vampire. See pages 32-36.)

Vampires, incubus, and werewolves are different creatures, but the manifestation of their abilities comes from the same genetic mutation. Thus, they have several key characteristics in common. Like an incubus, vampires and werewolves will be attractive to the human eye. They do this in order to trick humans so they can feed upon them. They will also charm them in order to keep the food source around. They are creatures of darkness, and if they sense a weakness, such as lust, naivety, or even kindness, they will use it against you. Thus, it is important to remember you are the one in control of your vampire, not the other way around. You have the power to summon them or get rid of them.

Vampires also have key abilities, however, that make them different from werewolves and incubuses. Naturally, the most obvious is their love of blood. Their less obvious abilities are their gift of tongues, which makes them able to charm prey of all races, and their ability to disappear, or more rather, become "shadow form." This ability to meld with shadows is where vampires became tied to bats because of the similarities between a bat and a shadow form vampire. With a lot of energy, vampires can even temporarily change the atom structure of solids, making it so they can walk through walls, sometimes even with a passenger. Scientists studying this amazing phenomenon believe that vampires have such forceful energy that it is easy for them to alter surroundings, if only for a little while.

There were more vampire facts, but he couldn't stomach the idea of reading them. He had actually, deep down, believed what Caspian had told him was real. Sure, Caspian had fed on him loads of times, but he had also repaid the favor by bringing him food.

"I swear he's different," Rusty said.

"Look at the papers," Delilah said. "I bet if you even look at your books, it'll say something similar. He doesn't like you, Rusty. He likes your blood."

Rusty grimaced, feeling as if he had been punched in the stomach. "A little harsh, Delilah."

Delilah gave him an apologetic look and then reached over and squeezed his fingers. "I'm sorry, Rusty. I didn't mean you aren't loveable. You are. I'm just speaking according to the belief that Caspian is a vampire, not a human. You deserve a good, human boyfriend. One that doesn't think that sucking your blood is foreplay."

"I guess you're right," Rusty said, though he still felt sick to his stomach at the thought of Caspian tricking him.

"So you'll keep trying to get rid of him?" Delilah asked. "No more going soft?"

"No more going soft," Rusty said. "I promise."

Especially if Caspian's tricking me.

"Good," Delilah said. "Then you'll have to find a way to see him again."

"Already done. I have a date with him tonight."

"Caspian sure works fast," Monica muttered. "If he wanted you dead, you'd be served up fried with butter.
